ANR-funded PhD position supervised by Dr Pauline HENROT
Centre de recherche Cardio-Thoracique de Bordeaux (INSERM U1045) – COPD group

Our group is looking for a motivated PhD student for an ambitious and exciting project centered on the role of skeletal muscle stem cells (satellite cells) in the development of sarcopenia associated to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
About the position and project
This doctoral position is funded by the ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche) for three years and is available from October 1st, 2025. The PhD student will work on human skeletal muscle samples available from the clinical studies MOTOR and SUMO sponsored by Bordeaux University Hospital (PI: P. Henrot) and
use state-of-the-art techniques such as single-cell RNAsequencing. In parallel, the PhD student will work with samples from a murine model of COPD (exposure to cigarette smoke) with fluorescent satellite cells (Tg:Pax7-nGFP). These experiments will be conducted in collaboration with the Institut Mondor de Recherche Biomédicale (IRMB, Créteil, Paris) with the teams of Pr Laurent Boyer and Pr Frédéric Relaix. Finally, the PhD student will have the opportunity to work on an innovative skeletal muscle 3D model currently in development in the host team, in collaboration with biophysicists and bioelectronics researchers.
About the profile
All types of students are encouraged to apply: master's degree in biology, engineering school or MD-PhD or PharmD-PhD program. Good organisational skills and ability to work as part of a team are valuable qualities for successfully completing this project. Experience in cell culture is preferable, as well as in molecular biology and histology. Bioinformatics skills would be a plus.
About the application
Interested in this opportunity? Please apply before June 1st, 2025 by sending a CV and explaining why we should work together on this project to :
If you are not currently in M2 in Bordeaux, please be aware that you will have to submit an application file to the Doctoral School Sciences de la Vie et de la Santé (deadline: mid-May 2025).
