Our group is looking to hire a PhD student for an exciting project aiming at understanding mechanisms of lung resilience, by focusing on how the airways adapt to particulate pollution.

About the position and project

This doctoral position is funded for three years and is available from September 1st, 2025. It is supported by an ERC Consolidator Grant (KINTSUGI project, coordinator: I. Dupin). The PhD student will build novel airway organoid models, using patient-derived stem cells. Morphological characterization, single cell transcriptomics analysis and functional measurements will be done at basal state and after the exposure to particles. These proxy measure of resilience will be linked to the clinical resilience status of the donor.

This project is intrinsically interdisciplinary and involves complementary partners, with physiologists and pulmonologists from INSERM U1045, biophysicists form UMR CNRS 5298 (Team ‘Bioimaging and Optofluidics’), bioinformaticians from HIRI Würzburg (Team AE Saliba), and epidemiologists from ISPED (Team ‘EPICENE‘).

About the profile

We are seeking for an interdisciplinary profile in biology/physiology with solid background in physics/bioinformatics, or for a profile in biophysics, with knowledge in cell biology and physiology. Dexterity and thoroughness are valuable qualities for conducting this project. Experience in imaging, primary cell culture, 3D culture, flow cytometry and/or omics analysis would be appreciated.

About the application

Interested in this opportunity? Please apply before June 1st, 2025 by sending a CV and explaining why we should work together on this project to:

isabelle.dupin@u-bordeaux.fr

If you are not currently in M2 in Bordeaux, please be aware that you will have to submit an application file to the Doctoral School (deadline: mid-May 2025).
